Over twenty years ago, back in 2005, a fifteen year old Travis Allred had a dream: to one day have a radio station of his own. After several years passed, he had an opportunity to make that dream a reality; In 2023 he created North Alabama Community Broadcasting, which filed for a construction permit to build a LPFM station in December 2023. In November 2024, the construction permit was granted, and the callsign WXKI was requested and granted in December 2024. The new X-101 FM WXKI is scheduled to hit the airwaves in late 2025. We will have local hosts, and want to make local radio FUN again, from our studios atop Battleground Mountain!
About the Original WXKI
In 1991, a new station was licensed to Moulton, AL, to serve as the FM companion to AM 1190 WHIY. The calls were WXKI, and America’s Best Country X-103 FM was born. Several items from our current studio were from the original WXKI/WHIY studio. The AM was classic country, and the FM was mostly 80’s-90’s country (hot contemporary country back then)! Both stations were ran locally and the FM had live hosts sign-on to sign-off seven days a week. In 2000, outside intrests from Huntsville bought both stations and the FM became Hip Hop 103.1 WE-UP, with studios in Huntsville, and later the AM became Urban Gospel WEUV, simulcasting WEUP-AM in Huntsville.
